Practice Philosophy :

I firmly believe that children / adolescents are best poised to thrive and succeed in life when they have consistently positive encounters with supportive, caring adults and mentors. Because not all children and adolescents have regular access to such individuals, I strive to make my therapeutic encounters with children / adolescents as positive and meaningful as possible. I use a variety of therapeutic and clinical techniques, with my primary approach being behavioral / cognitive-behavioral in orientation. I entered the field of psychology in 1989 in order to make a positive difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and young adults; and to help them overcome roadblocks and challenges that have surfaced in their lives. This continues to reflect the central focus of my practice. I am solution oriented in my approach, and seek to help my clients realize tangible growth, development and positive change. In addition to therapeutic services, I also provide diagnostic and assessment services. Common problem areas that I routinely work with in my practice include adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioral problems, substance abuse disorders, social skills development, toileting problems (enuresis / encopresis), and parenting issues. I also provide family-based marital / couples counseling, and believe that stable and consistent adults are an essential environmental component necessary for raising healthy and well-adjusted children. Evening and Saturday appointments are available.
